Dover to Dunkirk

The Dover to Dunkirk route is operated solely by Norfolkline Ferries

The Dover to Dunkirk crossing is a good option for crossing the Channel. The ferries aren't as busy as the Dover to Calais route (no coaches allowed!), although the crossing takes about 30 minutes longer, being around 2 hours from Dover to Dunkirk and there are up to 12 crossings per day.

Dunkirk, or Dunkerque in French, is well placed for drivers who intend to travel to Brussels or Belgium generally, Holland, Germany and eastern France, as it's further east along the French coastline compared to Calais (roughly 40km from Calais), but still easy to get onto the major French road and motorway networks at the A16 and A25. If you're in a hurry, then taking the Channel Tunnel will mean a quicker journey, but more expensive than by ferry to Dunkirk.
